Crowd Control Runner ‘Populus Run’ from FIFTYTWO Is Out Now as This Week’s New Apple Arcade Release
Earlier this month month, Jared wrote about a few upcoming Apple Arcade games including the recently released NUTS, Spire Blast, and today’s new release Populus Run () from FIFTYTWO. When I saw Populus Run on the App Store, I wasn’t sure what to think of it based on the screenshots but as with most Apple Arcade games, I added it to the queue to check out. When I finally got around to watching the trailer a bit later, I knew I had to play Populus Run as soon as it is available just based on the music and sound design. It turns out the gameplay itself is a lot fun as well. Populus Run feels like it blends a behind-the-back runner with crowd control. As you progress through levels, you pickup more people who run with everyone together and your aim is to collect coins, secrets, and as many runners as possible when you’ve reached the end of a level. Watch the Populus Run trailer below:
In its current state, there’s a lot to do across each of the levels through the in-game requirements and missions. New levels will be added soon as revealed at the end of the current level select for the game. Populus Run also has a hardcore mode you unlock after completing a level. In terms of controls, Populus Run feels good with touch controls and it also includes full controller support and graphics settings. I’ve been playing it at Max settings on the iPhone 11 and only had a few noticeable slowdowns. There is a Low Power Mode option that caps the frame rate to 30fps with some effects disabled as well. So far, I’m really enjoying my time with it. You can download Populus Run on Apple Arcade here. Check out our forum thread for the game for more discussion here. What do you think of the recent additions and are you looking forward to the upcoming games?
