Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Horizon Chase’, ‘Minion Rush’, ‘WazHack’, ‘Disney Mirrorverse’, and More

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. A nice variety this week, if I do say so myself. And I do, because who else would be saying anything in an article written by me? A little bit of Apple Arcade stuff, a little bit of premium, and a little bit of free-to-play. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

Minion Rush: Running game, Free Those wacky Minions are still up to their shenanigans. There’s another new movie coming relatively soon, which is wild when you think this game launched alongside, I think, the very first sequel. In this latest update, the Special Mission: Rise of Minions event continues. A new fan-favorite Minion will be joining the playable roster soon, and there are a couple of new costumes to unlock including Airline Bob. Who doesn’t love that scamp?

Star Warsâ„¢: Galaxy of Heroes, Free I feel like with all of the characters inhabiting the Star Wars universe, this game could go a little harder on that end with its updates. Oh well. What we get in this new version is a fresh feature called Datacrons. If you find your stats and abilities aren’t matching up in Territory Wars and Grand Arena Championships, you can use Datacrons to buff up with some temporary improvements. There are lots of ways to get your hands on them, and if you’re guessing you’ll need these things to stay competitive, you’re completely right.

Toy Blast, Free It’s time for the obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update, and I’ve once again gone back to the Blast well. I looked around for something more interesting and came up dry. As always, we get fifty new levels to play. The story explanation this time is that Lady Rhino is trying to get a new hair style. That’s right: fabulous rhino makeover party!

Disney Mirrorverse, Free It’s something of a miracle I have never accidentally written about this one before. This has been soft-launched on the Canadian App Store for ages, and I just assumed it was out everywhere. Not so! It just came out in the United States and many other countries last week. And along with that launch came a new update that added the Lightyear version of Zurg to the game. While the movie seems to be sputtering a bit at the box office, no one will ever accuse Zurg of failing to measure up. In size, that is. I already know many people accusing this version of Zurg of failing to measure up in terms of character. I don’t know where I am going with this, so let’s move on.

Taiko no Tatsujin Pop Tap Beat, Let’s start, DON! The Apple Arcade version of Taiko no Tatsujin gets five new songs added, and there are a couple of real firecrackers in here. The classic Japanese pop hit Plastic Love is now in the line-up, along with Battaille Decisive from Evangelion 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone. You also get Go On ~Into the Future~, Tell Me Beat, and Kikyoku. Some good new tunes to master, and that’s basically all you can really ask for from a Taiko update.

Gear.Club Stradale, The latest update for Gear.Club: Stradale is another hefty one. It adds two new cars, which isn’t a lot, but it does add a new environment in the form of the U.S. National Parks, which contributes fifteen new tracks to race on. There’s a new feature where you can open the doors and hoods of your cars to get a better look at them, and the refresh frequency for dealers has been sped up. Also: bug fixes!

Angry Birds Reloaded, Apple Arcade has been good for people who just want a fresh package of Angry Birds levels now and then. Just like the last couple of updates, this one includes forty-five new levels to play. The theme this time around is Midsummer, and I’ll say that the weather sure feels like the middle of summer where I’m at right now. Anyway, this update apparently lets you enjoy a taste of Finnish nature, which I’m sure is better than the burning heck-scape that is Japanese summer this year.

Zookeeper World, It feels like the last update for Zookeeper World wasn’t that long ago, but here’s another one. It adds ten new puzzle stages to play, but they won’t be active until July 3rd. There are some new weekly missions where you can earn tickets that can be turned in for special decorations. You can now customize your zookeeper’s appearance, choosing their face and clothing from a number of options. Finally, there’s a new minigame called Stick Rabbit Rope where you have to stretch a stick across a gap to cross over the scaffolding. Cute.

Horizon Chase – Arcade Racing, Free I love Horizon Chase. I own it on two platforms and I basically buy whatever new content they put out, no questions asked. This makes me awarding the game the coveted UMMSotW award positively reek of bias, but it’s my party and I’ll stick my thumb on the board if I want to. So what’s new? A DLC pack of four cars called the Old Style set! For a couple of bucks, you get the wholly original Ladybug, Nano, Gentleman, and the Fuzz. Sure, more cars. I like more cars.

WazHack, Free Another big update for WazHack, which does seem to be back to being awfully active again. This one adds support for mod.io modding, fixes some bugs, adds new weapons, throws in a new shop type, rebalances a whole lot of stuff, and so on. Some new stuff, some maintenance, and that modding support has a great deal of potential. A solid update, I reckon.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
