Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Tiny Tower’, ‘Death Road to Canada’, ‘Goat Simulator+’, ‘Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp’, and More

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. I had mistakenly assumed last week would be the last of the Halloween updates, forgetting that this week’s Monday is the very day itself. So naturally we have a bunch of Halloween updates to check out, plus a few other goodies. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Free Animal Crossing Pocket Camp, hanging in like a champ for a lot longer than I’d ever expected. This update is not a particularly monumental one, making a few tweaks to the UI and doing those performance enhancements we all love so much. It also adds in some stuff for future events, like the Halloween one going on right now. You’re probably too late to make much headway in it, but if you swing in now you’ll be in a good position for the next one, I suppose.

Angry Birds Reloaded, This is unquestionably a Halloween update, so I guess this party is getting started. Ham-O-Ween II offers up a whopping forty-five new levels to play, tasking you to explore a haunted house using the new Ghost Blocks. There are also eight new bird costume rewards at Birdie’s Booth in case you need to update some of the bird fashions. Halloween levels and costumes? Can’t get much more holiday-appropriate than that.

WHAT THE GOLF?, While the update notes don’t really say much about it, there is a Halloween event going on in this game right now. So there’s the box checked. The main new feature in this latest version is a hub area for all the episodes, with A Hole New World, Olympics, and It’s Snowtime available right now and more to come in the future. This update also cuts back a bit on the notifications, which should be music to the ears of some.

MARVEL Strike Force: Squad RPG, Free Marvel time. This week it’s Marvel Strike Force, and it’s got a bit of a Halloween vibe to it thanks to one of the new playable characters being Zombie Iron Man. You also get Black Panther (1MM), Nakia, and Dark Beast. There’s a bunch of other stuff in this update, with a few different events and other bits to enjoy as the content drips out over the next few weeks. No Spider-Mans? No prize. Let’s head to the next entry.

Goat Simulator+, Broadly speaking, I tend not to expect the Apple Arcade plus versions of games to get a lot of content that isn’t in the regular versions. Goat Simulator+ has done something interesting here, adding the GoatZ expansion to the game. On mobile the expansions are normally separate apps, so it’s cool to have it rolled into one here. And it also fits our needs as a Halloween-themed update, so the streak continues.

Spire Blast, Regrettably, I think it ends here. I mean, I guess we can try to pretend that the twenty new levels the developers have added in Cosmic Valley are scary, but I’m not sure that works very well. There are new pointing blocks which will help you destroy towers more efficiently, but that doesn’t seem particularly spooky either. There’s even the ever-important bug fixes and performance improvements, so we cannot be startled by their omission. But maybe the lack of anything Halloween in this update, the risk of ending our streak, is the true horror? Well played, Spire Blast. Well played.

Need for Speed No Limits, Free Even the car racing games are doing Halloween events now. In the Doppelganger special event, you can get a 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series with a haunting wrap… if you’re brave enough. And persistent enough. And maybe rich enough. There’s also a new XRC event with a 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 (C8) up for grabs, and a couple of returning story events with West End Waves and Tempest joining the Vault alongside a half-dozen bounties. Lots of good reasons to hit the road.

Tiny Tower: 8 Bit Retro Tycoon, Free Okay, no need to stretch for this one. It’s a proper Halloween update, with pumpkins and ghosts and everything. You’re even collecting candy, which you then use to craft spooky items. Naturally there are also some new costumes and pets to fit the theme as well. And those with the Bux can pick up a new elevator, lobby, and rooftop too. It’s a neat event that works well within the limited confines of Tiny Tower‘s gameplay. Best of all, it’s running until November 11th. You are not too late to enjoy it if you’re just finding out about it now, in other words.

Royal Match, Free Okay, so this did have a Halloween update a couple of weeks ago. It added one hundred new levels, and it was all rather spooky. I thought I was a clever boots including this as the Obligatory Free-to-Play Matching Puzzle Update, but then the game went and updated again today. The good news is that there are one hundred new levels, but the bad news is that they aren’t Halloween-themed. A last minute update that messes up my carefully-laid plans? Now that is some real adult horror. Yikes.

Death Road to Canada, $6.99 This is of course the clear winner of the coveted UMMSotW award for this time around. It’s frankly a bonkers update, with too many things to list. And it even has a Halloween event, so it is not letting us down in that regard. Just to throw a few things out there: twelve new zombie head types, a Cleaning Lady buff, some new rare Trading Camps, and the ability to eat the bandits in the Merciless Bandits event. There’s so much more than that, though. Just fire up the game and enjoy it all. It’s a great game to play on Halloween and also any other day.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great Halloween and an awesome week!
