Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Mini Motorways’, ‘Summon Quest’, ‘AFK Arena’, ‘JellyCar Worlds’, and More
Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. It’s an interesting assortment of games this time around, hand-picked for your Monday viewing pleasure. I do hope you enjoy it. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Jetpack Joyride, Free Is it pirate time? I don’t know if it’s pirate time in general, but it is pirate time in Jetpack Joyride. Collect Golden Skulls and get some cool unlockables like the Captain Black Hole Beard, Comet Chaser, and Lunar Looter. As ever, you have to move quickly because the next event is always just around the corner with this game. Get those doubloons while you can, yar-har-har.
Summon Quest, Well, look at what we have here. In what I must say is a significant update, Summon Quest gets itself a spiffy little PvP Arena for you to do battle with other players in. Challenge your fellow Summoners and see who is the cream of the crop. Some balance adjustments have also been made, reducing Break limits for Summons and making various other tweaks to that system. Some Summons also saw some changes, with Zorron, Thor, Flama Boxer, Vindicator, and Reichenbach getting various adjustments. I’d imagine there will be more such changes now that PvP is a thing, but I suppose we’ll see.
MARVEL Future Fight, Free No new characters in this latest version of Marvel Future Fight, but to be fair there aren’t really a whole ton of major or even B-tier characters left to be added. This update is inspired by War of the Realms, one of Marvel’s events from a few years back. As such, you get new uniforms for Odin, Malekith, Enchantress, and Angela. Odin gets his Tier-4, and Enchantress gets her Tier-3. Any player who happens to be stumbling into this game fresh now will find early game growth to be a lot faster than before. Nice way to get them up to speed for the end game content, I reckon.
Mini Motorways, Wow, is this our first ever instance of a draw for the coveted UMMSotW award? I think so! The first recipient is Mini Motorways, which celebrates ten years of Mini Metro with three brand new maps drawn from that game. New York City, London, and Mumbai are now available to play. You’re going to have to deal with train stations and their rails now, too. You also get some new challenges and achievements to go with the new maps. Throw in the usual bug fixes and improvements, and that’s the lot.
Mini Metro, $3.99 And here is our other joint winner of the coveted UMMSotW award. Look, this saves me on postage. Anyway, this is the game celebrating its tenth anniversary, and like its stablemate it is also receiving three new maps. These ones are drawn from Mini Motorways, of course. You get Tokyo, Warsaw, and Lisbon, each offering their own challenges. There’s a new photo mode, the ability to capture gifs to share with friends, and the standard bug fixes and optimizations. Happy anniversary to an awesome game!
The King of Fighters ALLSTAR, Free Okay, I haven’t checked on King of Fighters Allstar in a while, so let’s do that. You’ve got a couple of new EX fighters added to the game here i the form of XV Orochi Shermie (heck yeah Shermie) and XV Orochi Chris. There are some events going on for the fifth anniversary, including a special dungeon or two, a puzzle event, and more. You can even get some special goodies by logging in for the time being. Yes, that all looks fine. Let’s head on to the next thing.
JellyCar Worlds, No need to rerelease classic games these days when you can just add the stuff from those old games into the modern games. That’s what has happened here with JellyCar Worlds, which now has classic levels from JellyCar 1 implemented. This update also makes some improvements to the level editor, giving you more flexibility to create the challenges you’ve got in your head. Checkpoints, even!
Juneâ€s Journey: Murder Mystery, Free Let’s pop in on June’s Journey for a second. It’s good for the SEO, I’m told. In this new Memoirs Album chapter, we head back to 1907 and a sixteen-year old June. Her father is trying to force her into being what he deems a respectable young lady, and you know June. She isn’t having it. There’s a big ball coming up, so George calls in support from Gina Loreni so that June can at least look the part even if she doesn’t feel like acting it. Play this album and you might be able to pick up some new goodies. June’s Journey, people. June’s Journey. June’s… Journey.
Gardenscapes, Free As a nice chaser, here is our obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle update of the week. Good old Austinverse, always bailing me out. This new version sets up the next couple of events, including a pro skateboarding show from Austin (!), a hunt for Pandora’s Box, an attempt to rekindle the dying flames of a romance, a camping trip, and a birthday celebration for the game itself! There are a couple more things in here, but as usual I’ll let you go ahead and check the game if you want to see it all.
AFK Arena, Free In this update to the frequently-seen AFK Arena, we’re missing a lot of the usual boxes to check off. All we really have here this time is a new hero, in the form of the Graveborn Ivan – The Bonesmith, along with all of the extras that come with every new character. That means you can test the character out and enjoy a Bountiful Trials event for him. It’s actually somewhat rare to see an update for this game that doesn’t have an impossibly lengthy list of things to detail. Is it slowing down?
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
