TouchArcade 2019 Game of the Year: ‘Dead Cells’

Gambar
I really can’t believe that 2019 is coming to a close. It’s the same every year but somehow it’s always surprising to look back and realize how quickly the year went by. A LOT happened in the world of mobile gaming at large, and in our own little TouchArcade world as well. Back in March our Editor in Chief Eli Hodapp left his role here to go and join GameClub . It was a bittersweet moment as Eli had been the main driving force behind TouchArcade for a decade and we had been working together very closely for just about that entire time. I did and still do consider him a very good friend, and being that GameClub is doing something we really truly believe in, it’s easy to root for him to succeed in his new role. We shared so many responsibilities of running the site over the years that it was a fairly easy transition for me to move into the Editor in Chief role, but when you’re largely a two-man operation and one of those men leaves, it’s definitely tough to continue the same content outp

SwitchArcade Presents: Ten 2019 Switch Games You Probably Didn’t Play (But Should)

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to yet another special edition of SwitchArcade. Since Mikhail and I already ran through a lot of the usual Best of 2019 content last week, I had to get a bit creative for this final article of the year. Well, not that creative. The truth is that the Nintendo Switch had a lot of cool games released for it this year, and there are plenty of games outside of my top ten that I think are very good. As such, I’ve decided to put together a list of 10 games released in 2019 that many of you probably didn’t play. Got any suggestions of your own? Comment below! The more good games we all get a heads-up on, the better. Before we get into it, I want to mention that the Switch content I do for TouchArcade is largely funded through the TouchArcade Patreon . If you appreciate these articles and want them to keep coming until the cows come home, please consider subscribing. If you aren’t able to use Patreon or don’t want to for whatever reason, Jared outlined some ot

TouchArcade’s Top Stories of 2019 – ‘Valor’s Reach’ Reveal, ‘Another Eden’ Guide, and ‘Dawn of Isles’ Review

As has become tradition over the past few years, we think it’s fun to look back at what turned out to be our most popular stories of the past year. Well, it’s both fun and a little depressing at the same time. You see, the trend seems to be that guide content for free to play games VASTLY outperforms everything else we post, making stuff we actually enjoy posting about like cool news stories and full reviews for games much less profitable. The way I have always looked at it is that the free to play guides sort of subsidize the rest of the stuff we post, as from an enthusiast point of view news, previews, and reviews are much more interesting to read than some guide on how to game the monetization system in a free to play game. So that being the case you can probably look forward to more guides in 2020, but just know that when you see a guide that its popularity is making it possible for us to post the more interesting stuff you want to see. One intriguing exception this year is our ex

The Best Mobile Games of 2019

We say this about every year but it continues to be true: 2019 was a hell of a year for great iOS games. There was the usual slate of mobile original titles, but this year seemed to be particularly heavy in terms of high-profile ports of console and PC games too. And let’s not forget that this was the year that subscription gaming came into its own, mostly thanks to Apple leading the charge with Apple Arcade. Apple’s gaming service offers up TONS of excellent mobile-exclusive new games, but on the other side of the coin we had GameClub launch this year which is a similar gaming subscription but one that (for now) focuses on bringing back the App Store’s best classic games that have been lost to time. Both services compliment each other well and both offer a ridiculous amount of content for their price. So for this year’s Best Mobile Games of 2019 list we’ve combined our favorite mobile originals and ports into one large list, and picked our favorites for Apple Arcade and GameClub in t
