TouchArcade Game of the Week: ‘Donut County’

Gambar
The idea behind the TouchArcade Game of the Week is that every Friday afternoon we post the one game that came out this week that we think is worth giving a special nod to. Now, before anyone goes over-thinking this, it doesn’t necessarily mean our Game of the Week pick is the highest scoring game in a review, the game with the best graphics, or really any other quantifiable “best" thing. Instead, it’s more just us picking out the single game out of the week’s releases that we think is the most noteworthy, surprising, interesting, or really any other hard to describe quality that makes it worth having if you were just going to pick up one . These picks might be controversial, and that’s OK. If you disagree with what we’ve chosen, let’s try to use the comments of these articles to have conversations about what game is your game of the week and why . Without further ado…   Donut County Ben Esposito’s Donut County ($4.99) has been in the works for literally years, since at l

‘Arena of Valor’ News: AoV Prime Details, Cybercore Wukong, and Amily!

Gambar
I woke up this morning planning to write a fairly short Arena of Valor  news round-up. Even with the patch going live early yesterday, it felt like most of what was set to arrive had already been covered in last week’s edition. While that’s still more or less true, a lot more went on behind that scenes that I fully realized. Perhaps overshadowed by the patch itself. If you missed the news last week, you should read that first . Let’s get to it! AoV Prime with Don Maloch Skin It wasn’t made clear through any official channels, but we fully expected the Valor Pass to come AoV Prime made its way into the game. We were wrong. AoV Prime is now active and available. In case we didn’t cover it enough in the past, AoV Prime is a monthly subscription that awards players with a larger free hero rotation to use in Ranked, a rotating set of skins to borrow, discounts on select purchases each month and a few community cosmetic differences to flaunt your expendable income and/or dedication to a

Amazon Item of the Day: The Best Micro SD Card for the Nintendo Switch

Gambar
One of the best ways you can support TouchArcade is by doing your Amazon shopping through a TouchArcade affiliate link . We’ve set up the easy to remember toucharcade.com/amazon too if you want to type that in or bookmark it. We get a small percentage of anything you buy through any of these links, which otherwise would just go to financing Jeff Bezos’s experimental pizza bagel flavors or whatever else he’s up to now, and it goes a long way to supporting the site at no additional cost to you. These Amazon Items of the Day articles are all products we have used ourselves, and feel are things that the TouchArcade audience might be interested in! Our favorite Micro SD card for the Nintendo Switch is once again on sale on Amazon. We’re huge fans of the Sandisk Ultra 200GB Micro SDXC UHS-I Card as it has transfer speeds of up to 100MB/s which is more than fast enough for anything you’d ever want to do with the Switch, and being a Sandisk card it’s backed by a real brand name folks res

Sony Provides Yet Another Statement for the Lack of ‘Fortnite’ Cross Platform Play With Other Consoles

Gambar
Fortnite (Free) continues to increase in both userbase and mindshare across gaming and non gaming circles but ever since E3 and specifically Nintendo’s showcase , Sony has been under fire from the media and from Fortnite players who own more than one console platform. While Sony initially was all for cross play with PC and mobile platforms when Microsoft and Nintendo were against it, things have changed . Both Microsoft and Nintendo are more than happy to play alongside each other and allow gamers and developers to do as they please with cross platform support. The problem with Fortnite and Sony is that people had their accounts locked into the PS4 console with no way to link to Xbox or Switch. Right now, Cross play on PS4 works with iOS, Android, and PC platforms but not any other console. The drama had more or less settled and sadly everyone had slowly forgotten or accepted that PS4 cross play for Fortnite would not change but a new interview has reignited the flames. Tal

‘Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp’ Brings in Brewster for the Current Flower Event

Gambar
Everyone’s favourite barista is making an appearance in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp (Free) to host Brewster’s Sweet Harvest, beginning today. Despite running a café, Barista seems to be rather fond of wine: this event focuses around grape and vineyard-themed items. The event is a typical flower planting and bug sharing event, broken into two parts and running until 2 a.m. on September 11. This event includes “Hard Tasks" for the first time. With a higher difficulty than other tasks, hard tasks reward you with different colours of the furniture you’ve already earned. These items will not appear in your catalogue. Berrypetal flowers are the focus this time around, with part one of the event featuring green and blue berrypetal seeds and flowers. The green flowers spawn petite bumbledrops, little fuchsia bumblebees; the blue flowers spawn blue jelly bumbledrops. Collect three petite bumbledrops to receive the vineyard beret, and 25 total to earn another. Collect six jelly bum

‘Wild Arms Million Memories’ Gets a New Trailer Alongside Story and Gameplay Details Ahead of Its Launch Soon in Japan on iOS and Android

Gambar
Over the last few months, we’ve had some updates from Sony’s ForwardWorks and the titles that are set to release on mobile platforms in Japan. The Wild Arms franchise is definitely the highlight of the planned releases for me that still had no proper showcase. That changed today in a live stream when ForwardWorks showed off gameplay and story details for the upcoming Japan only (as of now) Wild Arms Million Memories . Watch the new trailer for it below: Wild Arms Million Memories launches as a free to play game with in app purchases for iOS and Android. The release window for it has gone from “this year" to “soon" and it s still Japan only. things might change in the future but it is looking unlikely at this stage. The theme song for the game is getting a proper single release in Japan as well and you can sample it here. For now, more details will be made available on the official website for the franchise and this game here . Make sure to have the music turned on fo

The Villainous Update for ‘Portal Knights’ Hits iOS and Android Next Week

Gambar
Portal Knights  ($4.99) from 505 Games baffled me when it launched on iOS with that price point. I don’t mean it was too high or anything but it feels way too low for the game given the pricing on other platforms. iOS and Android aren’t strangers to getting lower priced releases with the likes of Donut County costing only $4.99 on iOS while $14.99 on other platforms. We awarded it Game of the Week when it launched as well. Portal Knights alongside Dragon Quest Builders are my two favourite sandbox builder experiences by far. Portal Knights got a pretty big update on consoles and that update will be making its way to iOS and Android very soon. The Villainous Update adds new content and new gameplay features to it on all platforms. The highlight in terms of new content is the new bosses. There are three new bosses including the Slime Queen and the Knight Hunter. There are pretty hard but the reward seems well worth it. The other addition is The Ranger’s Guild Bodkins Point whic

Ubisoft’s ‘Hungry Dragon’ Is Now Available Worldwide on iOS and Android After a Soft Launch

Gambar
The original Hungry Shark launched back in 2010 and was very successful. Read our thoughts on it here . Hungry Shark World (Free) eventually launched under Ubisoft after they acquired Future Games of London which was also super successful. To shake things up, Ubisoft soft launched a spinoff title called Hungry Dragon (Free) which has been available for a while in certain regions. Hungry Dragon is basically Hungry Shark as a dragon in the sky. Ubisoft Barcelona is behind this one. Your aim since this is a free to play game barring the actual fun of flying and boosting all over the place, is to unlock and upgrade more. If you’ve been wanting more like Hungry Shark , give this one a go. It soft launched earlier this year and after pre-registrations for a bit, Hungry Dragon has finally launched on iOS and Android for free. Check out some early impressions from the soft launch in our forum thread for it. The official website is also live here .

‘Wonder Blade’ Finally Gets an MFI Controller Update and Difficulty Tweaks

Gambar
I only discovered Wonder Blade ($2.99) from Puppet Depot thanks to Jared gushing about it when it had a surprise release on the App Store. Wonder Blade is a premium beat em up that does so much more than the typical fare in the genre. The two person studio’s release is super polished and while I usually enjoy most games with touch controls, I like playing beat em ups with a controller. Speaking of MFI controllers, I really hope Apple at least mentions them at the event later this month or gives us an update on what to expect for them rather than leaving them in the Mac Mini state they are in right now. Last week, Wonder Blade got an update that fixed some UI issues and reduced the difficulty overall. If you had some trouble with achievements unlocking, the issue in question has been fixed. MFI controller support was finally added a few hours ago which makes now a great time ot pick this up or go back to it if you own an MFI controller. If you don’t have one yet, this is a good

SwitchArcade Roundup: Nintendo Play Online Sale, ‘Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove’, and New Releases & Sales

Gambar
Welcome to your SwitchArcade Roundup for August 30th, 2018. After the figurative dam broke due to all of the awesome news published yesterday from the Nindies Summer Showcase, things have dried up news-wise for today. I’m not complaining, though, as that gives me more time to sum up the latest new releases and sales of the day. It IS Thursday, after all–the major eShop update day! In the meantime, let’s “never lose hope" with today’s Game of the Day. Game of the Day Implosion ($11.99) A game with mobile beginnings and one that I would positively compare (in a very, very small sense) to high spectacle action games like what Platinum Games’ titles have to offer, Implosion  is a sci-fi hack and slash game that features full customization of your mech suit, intense battles with either your suit’s blade or long-range weaponry (the latter has limited ammo), and combat that requires awareness of enemy attack patterns. You’ll quickly find yourself on the receiving end of a beat-down

‘Egglia’ No Longer Needs an Internet Connection, but There’s a Nasty Catch for Previous Owners

Gambar
Egglia: Legend of the Red Cap (Free) is an odd little game from some of the people behind Square Enix’s Mana series of action RPGs. It’s not for everyone, but those who appreciate the quirky charms of games like Legend of Mana or Ever Oasis might enjoy what it has to offer.  It launched in August of 2017 on iOS as a paid app, but there was one odd catch to the game. In spite of it being a wholly single-player experience, it required an internet connection at all times to play. Many of our readers called foul on this, while others were willing to give the publisher the benefit of the doubt. Well, I’m not sure who wins this particular fight, but I know I’ve got at least a little egg-lia on my face right now. Publisher DMM has decided to stop online service for the game, which means the original app is essentially a dud. They now offer the game as Egglia: Offline (Free) , a free app with IAP to unlock the rest of the chapters past the trial portion. Once that IAP is purchased, you

Amazon Item of the Day: RAVPower 60W 5-Port USB-C Charging Station for $20 – An Absurd Deal

When it comes to charging, I’m all about packing as many ports into a charger as I can, which has made these mutli-port chargers an absolute necessity both around my house and in my bag of junk I carry with me when I travel. The RAVPower 60W 5-Port USB-C Charging Station is one heck of a multi-tasker, as it features a USB-C port capable of

‘Cat Quest 2: The Lupus Empire’ Gets New Screenshots and Details Including MFI Information

Gambar
Cat Quest ($4.99) from The Gentlebros is one of the best games you can play on iOS. We loved it and awarded it our Game of the Week and even featured it in our best games list for 2017. If you haven’t read our review of it, check it out here. Cat Quest 2: The Lupus Empire is something everyone here wants to play and The Gentlebros have been posting updates in our forum thread for it with some interesting details while also showcasing the progress it has made. Cat Quest 2: The Lupus Empire will feature controller support from day one and if you missed it, you can play it in local co-op. If you aren’t interested in playing it with someone, your partner will be AI controller and there are skills for both as cats and dogs unite in the sequel to one of the best touch RPGs ever. We’ve gotten some new screenshots in the forum thread but check out one of them below: Cat Quest 2: The Lupus Empire will have a longer story, more enemies, more weapons, and basically more of everythin

‘Warhammer Quest 2: The End Times’ Is Currently Discounted to Its Lowest Price Ever on iOS

Gambar
Perchang’s lovely Warhammer Quest 2: The End Times ($0.99) recently hit Android months after debuting on iOS. Warhammer Quest 2: The End Times is the follow up to the turn based dungeon crawler Warhammer Quest and it is fully in 3D. If you’re looking for some great turn based strategic combat on the go, this is well worth it. Read our review of it here . Since launch, it has gotten loads of content updates and expansions. The base game is good enough but if you still want more, there is add on content available through in app purchases in the form of Warrior Classes or expansions. The expansions are $4.99 each while the classes are $2.99 each. The most recent update hit less than a day ago adding two new Warrior classes, new weapons, armour, items, and more. Today, Perchang has discounted Warhammer Quest 2: The End Times to its lowest price ever at 80% off. If you’ve been holding off on picking this up on iOS, now is the time to get it.

‘Valleys Between’ Now Available Worldwide on iOS After a Soft Launch

Gambar
It isn’t often that a premium game has a soft launch but the beautiful Valleys Between ($2.99) from Little Lost Fox did just that when it soft launched on the New Zealand App Store earlier this month. While it missed the cut off (time wise) for Jared’s roundup last night, Valleys Between is finally available worldwide on the App Store. Watch the gorgeous trailer for it below: Valleys Between has hexagonal grids accompanied by visuals above that remind me of Alto’s Adventure that are wallpaper worthy. Your aim is to solve puzzles through gestures in a similar way to Triple Town to continue for as many in game years as you can. Each day in the year has its own challenges with weather and it feels like a nice zen experience. If you’ve been holding off on the soft launch, Valleys Between is now available on the App Store worldwide as a premium game. Check out our forum thread for it here and our review here.

Pre-orders and Pre-registration Now Live for Nintendo’s ‘Dragalia Lost’

Gambar
Nintendo’s Dragalia Lost focussed Direct just aired and as expected, they dropped a ton of information about the game in addition to opening pre-orders and pre-registration for the upcoming mobile exclusive action RPG. This game is a partnership between Nintendo and Cygames and will release in USA and a few other regions on September 27th . Watch the new English trailer for it below: Dragalia Lost is an action RPG with multiplayer available and various forms of skills and attacks. From whatever was shown off, I’m in two minds about it. Since Cygames is involved, it will likely end up being fun but I need to see more. The full Direct archive is also up on YouTube and you can watch it below. The Direct lasted about 13 minutes and gave us a good look at battles, boss fights, and more. Dragalia Lost will only launch in USA, Japan, Macau, Taiwan, and Hong Kong on September 27th. Hopefully it expands to more regions soon after. Fire Emblem Heroes is still not available in some coun

Each and every day new mobile games are hitting the App Store, and so each week we put together a big old list of all the best new releases of the past seven days. Back in the day the App Store would showcase the same games for a week, and then refresh those features each Thursday. Because of that developers got into the habit of releasing their games throughout Wednesday or very early Thursday in order to hopefully get one of those coveted features spots. Nowadays the App Store refreshes constantly, so the need for everyone to release all on the same day has diminished. Still, we’ve kept our weekly Wednesday night format as for years that’s the time people knew to check TouchArcade for the list of new games. And so without further ado please check out the full list of this week’s new games below, and let us know in the comments section which games you’ll be picking up!   All-Star Troopers iTunes Description Time to lead the ultimate battle through space in the new action-packed
