An End of Year Homecoming – The TouchArcade Show #547

Wow, after a month-long hiatus, the TouchArcade Show returns just in time for the end of 2022! As a special year-end treat, former TouchArcade writer and current public relations expert Carter Dotson joins the show, and a wild Mikhail also makes an appearance for a bit in the middle of the program. All that’s missing is a visit from Shaun but, alas, it was like 3am in Japan when we recorded this, and while I’m sure he loves us so much I’m not sure he loves us “wake up at 3am to record a podcast" much. Next time Shaun! This episode is mostly just us shooting the breeze about all sorts of stuff. I talk about moving back into my house after being gone for just shy of a year while it was being remodeled. We talk about the recent-ish Game Awards show and some of the games we’re looking forward to. Then we go into some Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch discussion, talking about our favorite aspects of each system and what the future might hold for both. All that, and more! So sit back and

SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Toy Soldiers HD’, Plus Sales on ‘Samurai Shodown’ and More

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for December 30th, 2022. In today’s article, we’re finishing up the year with a look at the two new releases that hit the eShop today along with another batch of sales. A firm reminder: the holiday sale is wrapping up on Monday, so make your final selections and head to the register soon. Let’s turn off the lights and lock the doors! New Releases Toy Soldiers HD ($29.99) The well-loved XBLA tower defense game comes to the Switch via its HD remake. It’s a rather nice remake, too. You get all the classic levels to play, fully rebalanced. There are some new levels to dig into as well. You also get all the original DLC, which adds quite a bit to the game. You can play alone or go against another player in local or online multiplayer. If this is our last release of the year on Switch, we’re at least going out on a decent note. Aircraft Carrier Survival ($19.99) Ugh, that UI and tiny text is already giving me a headache. T

The 10 Best Nintendo Switch Games of 2022 – SwitchArcade Special

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to our final special edition for the year of 2022. Today we’ve got our list of our very favorite Nintendo Switch games of the year. Please note that I’ve opted to mostly highlight games not covered by Mikhail in his list of the best Nintendo Switch ports of 2022 , so do consider that a companion piece to this one. As usual, these games are all picked by me. If you have a different list or have things in a different order than I do, I’d say that is about the most normal thing in the world. I encourage you to share your favorites in the comments so that we can all find some fun games to play. With that said, let’s get to my choices! 10. Triangle Strategy ($59.99) Although Triangle Strategy might not be the second coming of Final Fantasy Tactics that some were hoping for, it’s an excellent entry into the tactical RPG genre that should have players enraptured for dozens of hours. Just be prepared to spend an awful lot of time with characters who have a

The Best Switch Games of 2022 by Genre Awards – SwitchArcade Special

Hello, friends. It’s time for another SwitchArcade special edition. As part of our Best of 2022 coverage, we’re following our usual custom and giving out some Genre Awards. I’ve picked a bunch of popular genres and stated my favorite games of the year in each category. Our pal Mikhail has also offered his expert services for a few titles. So yes, let’s have a look and see what we came up with for our favorite games in each genre. Feel free to comment below with yours, too. Best Platformer Game Kirby & the Forgotten Land ($59.99) I can genuinely say that I haven’t had such a good time playing a game from start to finish as I did with Kirby and the Forgotten Land in quite some time. It put a grin on my face from the start, and it kept me happily engaged to the very last drop. Then I pulled my son in and we played through everything again in multiplayer. It’s one of the better Kirby games, and deserves a place of honor among the upper canon of Nintendo Switch titles. The stand-ou

SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Bubble Bobble’, ‘Path of Ra’, Plus Today’s Other New Releases and the Latest Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for December 29th, 2022. Not much left in the year now, and the eShop reflects that. While it is a Thursday, we only have five new releases to look at, and three of them are extremely dubious. We’ve also got the list of new sales and the expiring sales for you to consider. Another light one today, but hey, Shaun needs some rest time too. Let’s go! New Releases Arcade Archives Bubble Bobble ($7.99) Oh yes, that’s the good stuff. Up until now, if you wanted to play the arcade version of Bubble Bobble on your Switch, you had to do it through Bubble Bobble 4 Friends . A fun game, but if you just want to play the original that is a stiff price to cough up. Well, now you can drop eight bucks and have it via Arcade Archives . This game doesn’t need much introduction, so all I need to tell you is that Hamster did their usual fine job with it. Off with you, now. Go buy. Path of Ra ($13.00) This is a puzzle game of sorts whe

The Best Hidden Gems on Nintendo Switch in 2022 – SwitchArcade Special

Ah, the end of the year. A time for musings of the year that has passed, and speculation as to what the new year will bring. And also a time for lists! This one covers the hidden gems that hit the Nintendo Switch this year, and we really do our best to make sure they’re deep cuts. A couple of years ago, I handled this list. Last year, our pal Mikhail took the reins. This time, we’ve teamed up. I’ve selected a tasty dozen titles, and Mikhail threw in a few of his own. If you’re looking for some good games that are off the beaten path, read on! Sophstar ($12.99) I was really surprised at how good Sophstar turned out to be, especially given the reasonable price. It’s a very fun vertical shooter that is easy to learn but with enough depth to please veterans, and includes enough modes, options, and extras to keep you playing for a long time. I wish the soundtrack had a little more kick to it and I suppose it doesn’t really do anything dramatically novel, but otherwise I am hard-pressed
