Sorry, the Paint Store is All Out of Paint – The TouchArcade Show #489

In this week’s episode of The TouchArcade Show I recount my recent internet woes and the adventures of customer service, while Eli tells us about the new couch that’s on its way to his house. We also talk about the Great Paint Shortage of 2021 as Eli straight up SHILLS for Sherwin Williams brand paint. It is pretty good paint, I guess. We then switch gears into actual mobile game discussion like Titan Quest’s controller update, Rusty Lake and KOTOR 2 sales, and more. As always you can find links to everything we talk about in the Show Notes below. Don’t forget to shoot us emails with any questions, feedback, or anything else relevant or irrelevant to podcast@toucharcade.com . We read ’em all, and love decoding messages written entirely in emoji. As always, you can listen to us with the links below… And if you like what you hear, please subscribe and/or drop us a review in iTunes. Much appreciated! As a companion to this audio podcast, we also do a video version of the same show t

TouchArcade Game of the Week: ‘PewPew Live’

There was a time when you couldn’t take a single step in the App Store without tripping over dozens upon dozens of old-school-inspired top-down shooters. I think I “blame" Geometry Wars for this “problem" due to its dazzling particle effects and neon-soaked everything, with numerous developers trying to emulate the formula with their iOS offerings. It also didn’t hurt that a dual-stick top-down shooter was extremely well-suited to touchscreen controls. As such, even the earliest days of the App Store were filled with Geometry Dash -like games, and developer Jean-Francois Geyelin was right in the mix with his PewPew series. The original PewPew that launched around this time in 2009 started off extremely basic with just a couple of game modes, but it was still extremely fun and, well, extremely free. Due to this it developed a cult following and over the coming years gained quite a few new features via updates. Then about a year after the original game’s release, PewPew 2

SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘New Pokemon Snap’, ‘R-Type Final 2’, ‘Ultimate Custom Night’, and Today’s Other New Releases and Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for April 30th, 2021. In today’s article, we take a look at the remaining releases for the week. That includes some big titles like New Pokemon Snap and R-Type Final 2 , but also a lot of lower-profile releases that may catch your fancy. We’ve also got a lot of new sales to comb through, and some outgoing sales to consider. Let’s head into battle! New Releases New Pokemon Snap ($59.99) SwitchArcade Highlight! It’s been a solid couple of decades since Pokemon Snap released. It was at its core a short, on-rails “point-and-shoot" game that was as much about seeing Pokemon doing things in the wild as it was about playing it. While it got some criticism at the time for its brevity, appreciation only grew for it over time. So here we are, a proper sequel. A gorgeous proper sequel. And a surprisingly robust one too, at least in terms of content. The actual mechanics aren’t much different from the first game, and the fa

Big Updates for ‘SP!NG’, ‘Over the Alps’, ‘HyperBrawl Tournament’, ‘LEGO Brawls’, and More Are Out Now on Apple Arcade

I was wondering if we would see a surprise release or two this week but multiple game updates have rolled out beginning two days ago on Apple Arcade. If you’ve recently subscribed or gotten back to Apple Arcade, there are now new categories on the service with new games like Fantasian , Wonderbox , Clap Hanz Golf , a new Taiko no Tatsujin game, World of Demons from PlatinumGames, and more on the service. This week, six games have been updated on Apple Arcade with a lot of new content for players. If you missed last week’s update roundup, read it here . A few days ago, Over the Alps from Stave Studios was updated with a new expansion. A Test Of Character brings in new content to existing stories and the police chase mechanic tweaked. SpongeBob: Patty Pursuit gets its big 3.0 update today with five new treasure levels, more customization options, hats, Mrs Puff and Mary the Snail joining up SpongeBob: Patty Pursuit , and a lot more. After a bit of teasing, LEGO Brawls’ newest se

Unique Space Shooter ‘Arkfront’ Gets Massive Spring Update with New Boss Rush Mode, Optional Challenges, iCloud Save Syncing, and More

When a genre has been around for more than four decades, as the vertical shooter genre has, it can be hard to come up with ways to make a game in that style feel unique. Arkfront , a passion project from developer Shamus Locke and his company Intensity Faucet Games, put its own spin on things when it arrived on iOS devices this past January. One of its most unique features is hinted at right in its name. At the bottom of the screen is the Ark, your base that you’ll need to protect by flying your ship in front of it and taking out wave after wave of enemies, asteroids, and other hazards. Both your ship and the Ark have their own health meters and part of the fun of Arkfront is trying to manage both in the face of all sorts of dangers. It doesn’t stop there though, as Arkfront features a full progression system with a number of items and weapons you can unlock and equip to your ship. It really is a neat blend of traditional shoot ’em up fast reaction skills mixed with character progr

Entire ‘Tales of Monkey Island’ Series Returns to the App Store

It was a sad time when Telltale Games went bust towards the end of 2018, and that immediately called into question what the fate of their many published games would be. The answer was that, well, they simply disappeared. A little less than a year after Telltale folded, a group called LCG Entertainment was able to secure many of the previous Telltale IPs and projects and announced that they’d resurrect the Telltale Games name with the intention of re-publishing the games that they had the rights for on the various gaming marketplaces, as well as releasing new projects including the long-awaited sequel The Wolf Among Us 2 and completing the final season of The Walking Dead . Over the last year and a half or so LCG Entertainment has slowly but surely been fulfilling those promises, bringing back games like Batman , The Wolf Among Us , and Puzzle Agent . Their latest resurrection is bringing back the entire 5 episode Tales of Monkey Island series to iOS. Tales of Monkey Island was a jo

SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Battle Axe’, ‘Before I Forget’, ‘Mom Hid My Game 2’, and Today’s Other New Releases and Sales

Gambar
Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for April 29th, 2021. Relative to some weeks, we don’t have a whole pile of new releases to look at today. Just a dozen or so. But there are quite a few games of interest in that bunch, so you may end up spending big anyway. Of course, tomorrow has its own treats to enjoy. Aside from the new releases, we’ve got some incoming and outgoing sales to check out as well. Let’s get to it! New Releases Mom Hid My Game 2 ($4.99) SwitchArcade Highlight! I really like the Hidden My Game By Mom/Mom Hid My Game series. The puzzles are fun to figure out, and there’s usually some sort of clever ending to them. Sure, you won’t get hours and hours of entertainment out of them, but that’s fine sometimes. You can play these games on your mobile device and I think they’re fine over there, but five dollars to play on the Switch isn’t such a bad deal. If you haven’t played any of the series before, you should probably go grab the original

‘Star Wars: KOTOR 2’ Is Discounted for the First Time on iOS and Android

Gambar
Over the years, there have been many franchises and games that made their way to mobile with premium releases. Looking at Final Fantasy and Star Wars: KOTOR , it seemed like Star Wars: KOTOR 2 and Final Fantasy VIII would never hit iOS and Android a few years ago. Both Star Wars: KOTOR 2 ($14.99) and Final Fantasy VIII Remastered finally arrived on mobile allowing many including myself to fill in the gaps of a collection or bundle. Star Wars: KOTOR 2 was released for $14.99 on iOS and Android from Asypr Media and it has just gotten its first discount today dropping it to around $6.99 depending on your platform and region. If you’d like to read the history of Star Wars: KOTOR 2 on mobile and why it was great to finally see it hit iOS and Android, read this . Watch the trailer for the game below: I’m not sure how long the discount is going to last but I imagine a lot of Star Wars games will be discounted across platforms for May 4th worldwide. If you haven’t gotten Star Wars

Out Now: ‘Summoners War: Lost Centuria’, ‘Under: Depths of Fear’, ‘Blast Beats’, ‘River Legends: A Fly Fishing Adventure’, ‘PewPew Live’, ‘Sixit’, ‘Godzilla Destruction’, ‘Santorini: Pocket Game’ and More

Each and every day new mobile games are hitting the App Store, and so each week we put together a big old list of all the best new releases of the past seven days. Back in the day the App Store would showcase the same games for a week, and then refresh those features each Thursday. Because of that developers got into the habit of releasing their games throughout Wednesday or very early Thursday in order to hopefully get one of those coveted features spots. Nowadays the App Store refreshes constantly, so the need for everyone to release all on the same day has diminished. Still, we’ve kept our weekly Wednesday night format as for years that’s the time people knew to check TouchArcade for the list of new games. And so without further ado please check out the full list of this week’s new games below, and let us know in the comments section which games you’ll be picking up!   Bitten!
