Action Game ‘Sword Art Online Variant Showdown’ Announced for 2022 Worldwide Release on iOS and Android

Bandai Namco Entertainment just announced a brand new action game to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Sword Art Online in the form of Sword Art Online Variant Showdown (via Gematsu). Sword Art Online Variant Showdown is in development for iOS and Android and it will be a free to play game. Sword Art Online Variant Showdown is the newest of the many Sword Art Online games in recent years. Prior games have been on mobile, PC, and console platforms with a new game release almost each year. Bandai Namco Entertainment hasn’t revealed many details about Sword Art Online Variant Showdown yet, but the publisher released a trailer for the game to go alongside pre-registration beginning. Sword Art Online Variant Showdown will release worldwide this year. If you’d like to check it out, pre-registrations are now live on the official website and the official Facebook page for the game. App Store pre-orders are not live as of this writing and I imagine those will be available when the team has a more concrete release window in mind for Sword Art Online Variant Showdown. The official website also has pre-registration rewards listed alongside many tiers for the game. As with all new free to play games from Bandai Namco, I hope for worldwide servers so that we don’t see the Western versions shut down soon after launch as has been the case with some recent releases. ‘Dragon Quest Champions’ Releases Tomorrow in Japan on iOS and Android, Pre-Download Now Available

Earlier this year, Square Enix announced Dragon Quest Champions for iOS and Android made in collaboration with Koei Tecmo. With service beginning for the game tomorrow in Japan, Square Enix has begun pre-downloads on the App Store and Google Play. While Koei Tecmo has worked with Square Enix on the Dragon Quest Heroes action RPGs in the past for console and PC, this is a new mobile RPG, and the first big Dragon Quest mobile release since Dragon Quest Builders . Dragon Quest Champions will feature solo and multiplayer mode. Watch the new Dragon Quest Champions mobile trailer below: As of this writing, a localization hasn’t been announced.
